Itinerary |
We start riding only 15 minutes from the center of Cusco, at the sites of Pucapucara and Tambomachay. From here, our route takes us through ravines, eucalyptus forests, small villages and extensive agricultural fields. The pleasant sensation of exercise on the gentle up-hills is compensated for by the exhilaration of the down-hills. On the way, we visit the Pumamarca Hacienda, an ancient Inca palace, converted into an impressive Spanish colonial Hacienda house, which remains in place today, silently testimony to its history. |

Itinerary |
The bus picks us up early in the morning from our hotel in Cusco, to take us on a trip of about 3 hours to the highest point on the way between Cusco and the Lares Valley. Once we arrive at this mountain pass, we get our bicycles ready to begin what will be an exciting day of adrenalin and stress relief. The desolate ground of the puna, covered only with ichu (a local shrub) and meager pasture, give way to more benign and fertile lands as we descend along the banks of the picturesque Qochoq River. The Inca tombs in the narrow canyon, the friendly people of the Totora community, and the breath taking views from the heights of the canal are unforgettable images, which will stay in our memory forever. |
