However, as a general rule, the country can be divided into three distinct geographical regions: the coast, the mountains and the jungle. Understanding the climate and weather conditions that are typical of each of these regions will be the first step to knowing what to pack for your trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Coast<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The coastal region of Peru refers to a narrow strip of land that is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes mountains to the east. This area is mostly desert and the climate can vary from dry to extremely arid. In the nation\u2019s capital, Lima, during the summer it can be extremely hot and humid and you may never experience any form of precipitation. However, during the winter months, it is still humid but cool, and you may experience a slight drizzle of rain called&nbsp;<em>garua<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When traveling along the coast during the summer, be sure to pack warm weather clothing, as well as a bathing suit if you plan on hitting the beach. But if you intend to travel through Lima in the winter, it is recommended that you bring along long pants and a warm jacket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.enigmaperu.com\/assets\/img\/article_392_3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enigmaperu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/article_392_3.jpg\" alt=\"How to Pack For Peru\" class=\"wp-image-817\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Mountains<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The second geographical region is the Andes Mountains that separate the coast from the jungle. The Andes are the second highest mountain range in the world, and in Peru they ascend rapidly from the coast. In fact, in some places they reach heights of 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) only 95 kilometers (60 miles) from the Pacific. During the summer months this region experiences warm days, cold nights and little rain. However, during the winter months the weather can change rapidly from sunny to cold with very heavy rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you plan to travel in the Andes region of Peru, it is recommended that you dress in versatile layers. In that way, your wardrobe will be able to change with the weather. Because it can get quite cold, especially at night, you should bring a warm jacket. Moreover, be sure to pack a rain coat or poncho and waterproof boots, especially if your visit is scheduled during the winter months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Jungle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.enigmaperu.com\/assets\/img\/article_392_4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enigmaperu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/article_392_4.jpg\" alt=\"How to Pack For Peru\" class=\"wp-image-818\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As the very eastern region of Peru, the jungle is characterized by the lush vegetation of the Amazon River basin. In this region you will find both cloud forests and lowland jungle. It is typically very hot year round in the Peruvian Amazon, though from November to March it is very rainy, while between April and October it is fairly dry with occasional heavy downpours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the heat when traveling in the jungle, you will want to wear loose-fitting long sleeve shirts and long pants. This will help to protect from mosquitoes and other pests, though you should also pack bug spray and even a mosquito net hat. No matter what season you travel during in the jungle, be sure to also pack a raincoat and waterproof hiking boots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides understanding the climate of the area you are traveling to, a big part of knowing what to bring to Peru depends on what activities you want to participate in. If you enjoy adventure, pack hiking clothes and boots. If you enjoy fancy evenings out on the town, bring a change of dress clothes and a nice pair of shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, if you take any sort of medication, be sure to bring enough to last your entire stay. Moreover, regardless of the region of Peru you are traveling to, don\u2019t underestimate the power of UV rays and always apply sunscreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most important thing is that you don\u2019t forget to take care of yourself during your stay in Peru, so your packing list should reflect your most basic needs.
