It originated between the years 1848 and 1874 when approximately 91,000 Chinese immigrants were brought to Peru as laborers. Combining Chinese ingredients and cooking and preparation methods with Peruvian elements, this dish embodies the fusion of Peruvian Creole and Chinese cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, lomo saltado is an extremely popular dish that can be found in restaurants all across Peru. However, if you\u2019re interested in making it at home, we\u2019ve provided the recipe below!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Salt and pepper to taste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc cup distilled white vinegar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons of soy sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 teaspoons cumin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 garlic cloves, finely minced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 tablespoons of vegetable oil (2 for the marinade, 1 for stir-frying)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 pound (0.45 kilos) sirloin steak, sliced \u00bc inch (0.6 cm) thick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 large onion, sliced into thick strips<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 plump tomatoes, peeled, seeded and sliced into strips<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 yellow chili pepper, seeded and thinly-sliced (for best results use a Peruvian&nbsp;<em>aj\u00ed amarillo<\/em>&nbsp;if available)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc cup fresh cilantro<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into strips<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> \u00bd teaspoon paprika<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.enigmaperu.com\/assets\/img\/article_441_5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enigmaperu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Peruvian-Lomo-Saltado2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-624\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1.\tTo create the marinade, first mince the garlic well and whisk it together with the salt, pepper, white vinegar, soy sauce, cumin and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2.\tPlace the strips of sirloin in one bowl and the onions in another. Divide the marinade between the two bowls and let them set in the refrigerator for at least an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3.\tPour the remaining vegetable oil in a wok and heat it over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the steak with the marinade and cook until it has browned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4.\tNext, add the tomato slices and allow them to simmer for a few minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5.\tAdd the yellow chili pepper, cilantro and onions with marinade to the wok. Stir slowly until well-mixed and allow for all the ingredients to simmer for approximately 5 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">6.\tAs the other ingredients are cooking in the wok, sprinkle the potato slices with paprika and fry them in a separate pan. Alternatively, you can buy frozen French fries and cook them according to the instructions on the packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">7.\tServe the stir-fried steak and onion mixture over the potato slices with an optional side of white rice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you travel to Peru, juicy and delicious lomo saltado is a must-try dish and surely something you\u2019ll want to make at home.
