Amazon Shelter
protecting wildlife from illegal trafficking
ALMA was organically born to assist single moms from Callao (Lima airport area), who are victims of the severe travel and tourism crisis caused by the COVID 19 pandemic. And now, the initiative is becoming a long-term sustainable project.
The grounds of her property are made up of separate areas with huge spaces for a variety of animals, including several species of monkeys, toucans, macaws and even sloths.
Her aim is to achieve a change, to leave something positive for her country.
Her work is focused on:
- The rehabilitation of animals to return them to their natural habitat – she has so far achieved this with almost 90% of the animals received.
- The education of people and communities in the need to protect and care for local fauna, as a means to stop illegal animal trafficking from the source.
- The initiative has no support from authorities – volunteers and the collaboration of national and international private companies keeps the center going. From administration support, to marketing and veterinarians, Magali is always grateful to receive honest, hardworking and dedicated help.
