The greatest part of this trek is that you don’t see other people for the first 2.5 days. This should be protected. Don’t allow improvements (roads, lodges, etc) to spoil the wild/untouched nature of this trek. I would not want to do this trek if things were nicer KEEP IT ROUGH!!!

Cannot praise enough Sebas, he was supportive, encouraged us when we needed it, was the perfect host, intelligent, knowledgeable & with a great sense of humor. His obvious passion for the area and culture made the trip + tour of M.P. special. He appreciated our sense of fun and just was excellent! Pavel is a genius. I could not do in my own home what that man managed to produce in a camp kitchen. I am awestruck. Excellent.

Luciano is an outstanding guide with an excellent support staff. Luciano has the true qualities of a leader. His knowledge of Peru, the archeological sites, the costumes, the language and the people are superb. Luciano is also very organized and considerate. He helped us with a difficult situation and the outcome was very good.
I also commend Irimeo because he spent an entire day looking after my son and me and when returned to Cusco unexpectedly. Like Luciano, he was very professional and considerate.

I am not sure how I would improve this hiking service. The food was excellent, and Luciano was truly amazing. Luciano is a great guide, and Sixto is a magician when it comes to cooking in the Andes. This two make a great pair, and Enigma should hold on to this two man for a long time. I wish them both the best in future endeavors, and I want to say thank you for making the best hiking experience I have had.

Despite the difficulties we had with the trip (protests, strikes, etc) both the company and our guide Sebas ensured we still had the best possible trip and timings went as smoothly as possible. I cannot praise Sebas and the rest of the staff at Enigma enough. The food was excellent and Sebas’s English and knowledge was superb. Well done to all and I will make sure I recommend you to fellow travelers.

Milton the guide was superb and went above and beyond adapting to all individual personalities and levels of ability. He seemed to know how to get all of us over those mountains and made sure we had an enjoyable experience. We will never forget this experience and will tell all of our friends about Enigma. The chef (Hilario) was amazing. The food was way beyond our expectations; I can’t even put into words what this trip meant to us.

My family and I were delighted with this trek. Edgar was a wonderful guide and played a big role in making the trek such a big success. I would like to note that we changed the itinerary of our trip at the very end to omit one day of trekking and spend two nights is Aguas Calientes because my daughter developed foot problems. I really appreciate Edgar’s flexibility in helping us to modify the trek to cope with Claire’s foot problem. Edgar was a terrific guide and my family and I thought this was a wonderful trek

Hernan is a special young man with both leadership and communication skills beyond his years. He made us feel welcome from the start. All the porters were friendly and courteous to myself and my family we even played soccer on Monday morning on top of Huchuyqosqo!! We asked Hernan if we could climb Waynapicchu and he did not think twice about accommodating us. I have been camping before, but I have never had such an amazing experience as this. From the beginning, when I didn’t even have to carry my back (thank you porters!) to the extravagant lunch tents and menus to sleeping among Inca ruins at Huchuyqosqo, every part of the trip was great. Hernan had knowledge of Inca history and the country of Peru that was so extensive that I never had a question unanswered. The whole group was very amiable and made it a very unique and personal experience, like the English-Spanish-Quechua lesson with Hernan and playing soccer with everyone at 1200ft on Huchuyqosqo, and of course the trip ended with a bay at Machupicchu and Waynapicchu. I don’t think I could have had more fun. Thank you.

The trip was unforgettable, I had the time of my life. Our guide Hernan was a perfect guide. He made the trip 100% better I think he is the best guide out all the other I saw on this trip. The porters were great too, they were very friendly and for in fact, we played soccer at Huchuyqosqo. Sixto, the chef, had excellent food. Marcelino was the nicest porter they were all great. We got to do many things. I enjoyed hiking form mile 104 to Machupicchu. Hernan was so great; he even decided to hike Huaynapicchu with us. In addition the porter on the hike on the Inca Trail, Hilario was great. My trip was awesome because of our awesome guide, porters and chef.

The Lares route is beautiful and free from hordes of tourists. The route is clean and extremely pristine. One of the attractions of
the Lares route is visiting villages that maintain their cultural practices. The paradox is that the presence of the tourist and all the tourists who will follow is that they bring change – the influx of the hegemonic Western civilization.

Attempting to control and negociate this cultural change is the challenge of Eco-tourism. Perhaps giving the villagers control over certain aspects of the tour would help the very difficult situation.

Guide: Gary was good humoured and was always enthusiastic and encouraging. His patience and energy were very much appreciated! His familiarity with the area and the people made the trip unique and gave us an insight into the traditional lives the Andean people led.

Service: The horsemen were friendly and efficient. It was a great relief to arrive at our campsite with the tents pitched and the cups of tea ready!!

Equipment: tents were in very good condition and mattresses were comfortable. Nice and clean.

Food: Great! Maybe too much!! The presentation and service was fantastic. Good variety.

Global expectations: The scenery made it a trip far above our original expectations. It is something we will keep with us for years to come.

Ayahuasca Therapy Sessions

I did the Ayahuasca ceremony with Kush, I had done it twice before and come to the conclusion I didn’t really need it but had nagging doubts that maybe I was missing something. Ayahuasca Therapy session
July 2003

This is not an easy experience, but it is a special one featuring: projective vomiting, massive shivering, visions of giants, thoughts of death, some excellent colors, and a level of self-knowledge that is at once scary and enlightening. And finally, peace. Ayahuasca is not necessarily fun but is strong and amazing – but people should know what they are getting in to when they take it. Kush is a good man with great product, a broad knowledge of mythology + science; and he provides a comfortable, safe environment. I would recommend him.

Great trek, will never forget it. Especially the hospitality of the families we stayed with. Mari Carmen and Vladimir were superb hosts, as was Maldini and his family. MANY THANKS FOR A GREAT TRIP!
