Casa Mantay
SUPPORTING YOUNG MOTHERS
An impressive and beautiful project, Casa Mantay was born to support young mothers with no resources. Most of the mothers are teenagers who have been victims of violence or other difficult circumstances, they find themselves with no place to live with their babies, with no knowledge on how to deal with the situation and most frequently, with no support from their families, economic or otherwise.
The project, which is is housed in a building south of Cusco, assists girls over the course of multiple years, providing education for them, nursery care for their kids and and experience of community. Mantay’s approach is based on the collaboration of all, as the girls are in charge of cooking, cleaning, taking care of babies in shifts, with the opportunity to develop into responsible, working and caring human beings.
The girls have also learned to produce textiles and other lovely souvenirs that are then sold in their shops found in the center of Cusco, which also help to fund the organization.
