COVID-19 Porter Fundraiser
Inca Trail porter relief during COVID-19
Since the Peruvian borders were closed last March 16, 2020, Enigma’s 64 porters abruptly stopped receiving any income. Enigma started this campaign in June 2020 to urgently request donations for our porters’ living expenses while they are out of work.
ENIGMA SUPPORT
We set up our first-ever fundraiser. We launched an email campaign contacting friends, family, clients and agency colleagues, organizations we are affiliated with, associations and most importantly, past Inca Trail clients. The reply was humbling and massive. Our initial objective was to cover ONE Inca Trail departure income (US$ 90) for each of our censed 64 porters, making it a total of US$ 5760 (or €5150 as a European account was to be used since no available Peru-based account for the reliable chosen platform). Thanks to the empathy, generosity and appreciation of our clients, we achieved over FIVE TIMES the initial objective.
The entire amount of funds received in our bank account is being distributed among the porters, with an added bonus given to our trekking guides, who have also been left without income since the border closure.
“It has been one of the most humbling and heart-warming experiences I’ve ever had. The joy with which porters, guides and all our team followed the campaign, and very especially, the most incredible testimonials of all past clients and trekkers wishing to assist and donate have brought tears to my eyes. We are all immensely grateful to everyone, for their concern, their generosity, their care and their intention.”
